Unfortunately my 5800 (firmware version 50.0.005) freezes after filling in the account information, while trying to fetch the posts. Only solution: removing the battery.
    Any ideas?

    0.7.3 Released

This release is primarily targeted toward non-touch phone users, as the improvements are mostly related to keyboard navigation. Another week of developing has brought the following new features:
    - At least 97% of the UI should be navigable with the keyboard now, please report any problems you might have. We will also be doing some testing next week to be sure everything is working.
    - Long comments can be scrolled with the keyboard
    - Focus and scrolling are kept in sync better in lists
    - Key presses in platform dialogs shouldn’t leak through to the application as they did before
    - list items are smaller on low resolution devices, so you can see more at once

The E71 deadlock which was in our previous release has been worked around. We are real sorry about this one, but it seemed to be a rather obscure Qt bug we were facing. Hopefully it wont be encountered by anyone anymore!

While working at keyboard support, we noticed that the image upload selection list truly is broken on Symbian. This shows the difficulty of developing for multiple platforms, as we didn’t realize the extent of the breakage until now, as Maemo builds were working fine. Fixing the image selection view will be high on our priority list next week.

Ok, one issue I see is recurring in two versions now. As you know some of us have bogs hosted with other hosts and not WordPress, I am one such person. Well in short I have WP 3.0 Installed on the control panel of my host company and use it as my app for posting / editing posts daily. Now for example on mine there is no API issued by WP but yes an API from AKISMET also 12 digits/letters. This API key doesn’t work on the app on my E71 so therefore cannot see any stats. The rest seems to work for now, still playing around with the app. More to follow.

      • terom 1:40 pm on July 28, 2010 Permalink | Reply

If you have the wordpress.com Stats plugin installed on your self-hosted blog, and configured with your wordpress.com API Key, then it should in theory be possible to view your self-hosted blog’s stats using the mobile client – but we haven’t really tested this scenario, so it would be interesting to hear if it works or not.

You might be able to get it to work by fiddling with the Blog URL that you’ve entered in the app – in particular, by making sure that it’s the same as what your blog’s official URL is (as configurable in the wp-admin panel under Settings).

WRT image uploads, on the N900, I can only view a certain number of images. Can you guys check that out pls? I would like to be able to search/view my whole gallery for the images I want to upload.

Also, is it possible to view/search for gallery items already uploaded? That would be awesome!

Do you mean that the thumbnail is not shown, or that the image is not in the list at all? You can load the thumbnail by clicking the arrow icon, or pressing the “(arrow) right key” when the item is selected. We are working on improving this right now, and will be releasing a build latest on Friday with improvements related to this included.

with this new version, I still have the problem of navigating on the post’s text.. I’m I missing something? I have a E-72 and the only way to navigate on the post’s text is by using the left and right keys which makes it REALLY dificult to edit… to go to the middle of the post I’ll have to wait for the cursor to get there by pressing the left key, if I click up or down it navigates to other textboxes or buttons.
One again… is there something I’m missing or this is the way it suppose to be? I hope there is a workaround for this. Thanks.

First preview release towards E-series support – 0.7.2

We’ve been working on re-enabling support for non-touch devices for about a week now, and have come far enough to release. Version 0.7.2 includes the following changes:
    - Improved keyboard navigation support
    - Improved low resolution display support
    - Some minor UI tweaks
    - Some optimizations in refreshing (rebuilt post category view)

Keyboard navigation and low resolution support are still work in progress. You might still get stuck in some views, and some parts of the UI are too big, but mostly it is functional.

NB! With one specific Symbian device, we ran into a seemingly random deadlock situation, which went away eventually. Your phone might deadlock shortly after starting the application, forcing you to remove the battery to reboot. This should not harm your phone, but you could loose any unsaved data. You have been warned!

he S60 build is availble as a self-signed SIS package, and a smart installer which will automatically install the Qt dependencies if needed. The maemo build is available from the extras-devel repository.

A couple of things I also noticed is missing, cursor control within the body text area, and highlighting a button – not all change colour.

Updated on my N900 and its not refreshing correctly and screen goes blank randomly.

I tried to refresh comments and it said it was refreshing pages, then fails to do anything?

When moving between blog accounts the comments completely disappear and I need to force close and open again before they appear.

Updated. Can finally use the menu!! So far has been pretty good.

      1) the autocomplete is on overdrive!!
      2) doesnt remember the blog keys to get stats, etc..

      • futusaber 7:26 am on July 21, 2010 Permalink | Reply

        1) This seems to be a Qt bug, which should be fixed in future Qt releases. Unfortunately I’m afraid you’ll just have to wait on this one…
        2) It should save the key when you close the application. If you manage to crash it, or kill it some other way, the key will not be saved.

On the E71 with FW 500.x.x, it isn’t working, freezes the device after inserting , blog, user, password etc. and clicking on save…………. Have to remove battery to restart as nothing works. Had to hard reset and havent installed again, same thing. Given up!

      • futusaber 12:06 pm on July 22, 2010 Permalink | Reply

We could reproduce this only on one E71, while other phones worked just fine. Since you were able to reproduce it, we took a closer look, and were able to work around the issue, which seems to be a Qt bug. We’ll be rolling out a new release tomorrow, in which this should be fixed.

We are very sorry about the inconvenience, but obscure bugs like this can be tricky…

    Minor 0.7.1 Maintenance Release

We’ve pushed a small update to fix a couple UI issues on Symbian touchscreen devices, plus some improvements to how the location geo-tagging feature stores the coordinates in posts.

For Maemo users, we’ve also enabled Portrait mode in the UI, so you should be able to flip your N900 around (with the keyboard slider closed) to trade some width for height. It’s a fun little feature, but unfortunately there’s no on-screen keyboard in Portrait mode.

The S60 build is availble as a self-signed SIS package, and a smart installer which will automatically install the Qt dependencies if needed. The maemo build is available from the extras-devel repository.

Yup. 1) When i try to switch between blogs it just goes to a blank screen and dies.
      2) Sometimes it fails to sync local drafts with drafts online. same with status: I tried publishing a post, the status said published but it wasnt.
      3) Tried removing one blog, again, the app shut down. after a day and few attempts to switch blogs, the blog i was trying to delete was finally removed.
      4) hyperlinks and photo uploads show up as failed html comands online.
      5) unable to add new blogs without the http:// .. (mentioned this because the post says that’s part of the changelog)
      otherwise its awesome!!

      • terom 3:31 pm on July 14, 2010 Permalink | Reply

        1) When i try to switch between blogs it just goes to a blank screen and dies.

The blogs list sometimes shows up as empty, but I’ve never noticed the app crash there, though.

        2) Sometimes it fails to sync local drafts with drafts online. same with status: I tried publishing a post, the status said published but it wasnt.

Check that you haven’t set a Published date in the future. It causes the post to show up as published, but it doesn’t show up on your blog until the set date arrives.

        3) Tried removing one blog, again, the app shut down. after a day and few attempts to switch blogs, the blog i was trying to delete was finally removed.

Multi-blog handling isn’t as robust as it could be, so this is a possibility. We’ll see if we can manage to reproduce this.

        4) hyperlinks and photo uploads show up as failed html comands online.

You mean as raw HTML? This might be some kind of issue with how the server handles the post, so what version of WordPress are you running on your site? Any plugins related to editing?

        5) unable to add new blogs without the http:// .. (mentioned this because the post says that’s part of the changelog)

Are you sure that you’re using the latest 0.7.1 version from extras-devel? Check the Options > About box to be sure.

If so, what are you entering as the URL, and what error do you get? Qt might be guessing wrong, e.g. if your hostname begins with ftp.

I’ve just got it up and running on the Nokia E51 – an old phone by today’s standards with quite a small, portrait screen and number / navi pad only.

There are some usability issues on this phone. When first setting it up, there is no way to tell whether you’re on the save or cancel button, but eventually you can fluke it. (Down once gets to save, down again seems to get to cancel – got plenty of practise typing the URL and cred’s in…)

Occasionally a menu of options will appear, but quite often it’s not possible to navigate through this menu.

Dialog boxes such as enable XML can’t be clicked and the app has to be force exited.

Once it’s set up, it seems to be possible to write a new post without too much drama.

      • terom 3:03 pm on July 15, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Yeah, the 0.6.9x and 0.7.x series UIs are more or less non-functional and completely untested on non-touchscreen devices; see our previous posts on the issue.

We’re busy working on improving the UI’s keyboard navigation (primarily for non-touch Symbian devices, but touchscreen users with hardware arrow keys should benefit as well) and we’ve already got some improvements lined up for the next release. You can expect to see a 0.7.2 release tomorrow with those improvements, but e.g. the dialogs and all the softkeys probably won’t yet be fully functional.

We weren’t really expecting anyone to use the 0.7 releases so far on non-touch devices, so I’m kind of surprised you even got as far as to writing a blog post :)

        • terom 9:06 am on July 16, 2010 Permalink | Reply

0.7.2 will be delayed until next week, because our Symbian developer is on an unexpected sick leave today.

    • Michael Kean 2:24 pm on July 15, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Edit to last: It appears that one or more required keys to operate this app are not supported on the E51′s keypad. The direction pad only works for up and down it seems. It’s possible, with persistence, to write a blog post; but it’s not possible to ‘publish’ it.

I’ll wait until my Bluetooth keyboard arrives and try again. In the mean time, here’s an example screenshot of the E51 and how it gets stuck :) (Weird looking Picasa Image URL.)

    • Michael Kean 3:37 pm on July 15, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Aah :) I read that about the E series, but I didn’t twig that the issue was non-touch related. I’ll wait… In the mean time I managed to get WordMobi to work, once your app told me I hadn’t turned on RPC XML. (WM just gave a cryptic error instead.) My main blog’s still a B2Evolution one so I’m a bit of a n00b on WordPress, and the ability to interact via Symbian is the catalyst for change.

You can see the error if you try to visit your xmlrpc.php URL – “412 Precondition Failed”. It appears to be a configuration issue with mod_security on your hosting server – try reading the WordPress support site or contact your hosting provider for help (“412 Precondition failed for WordPress xmlrpc.php requests, related to mod_security?”).

Hi, the smart installer package will automatically check if Qt is installed, and download only the necessary packages.

There shouldn’t be any issues with RAM, as long as you don’t have too many other programs running. One thing that you should take into account is that the client will run faster if you install it on the phone memory (vs. memory card).

    News for E71, E72, E63 and E75 owners

    Hello all,

after getting your feedback especially regarding the support for keyboard phones we have decided that the next 3 weeks will be spent in making the E-series experience as good as possible – including
    - keyboard navigation
    - overall usability
    - small screen layout
    - keyboard shortcuts (I’m a fan of Opera Mini shortcut system – we might borrow some ideas from there)
    - other necessary tweaks and bug fixes

Me and futusaber will be posting weekly builds and the goal is to release the keyboard optimized small-screen build by the end of July.

Thanks for the patience dear E-series users – we haven’t forgotten you.

Edit: Removed E5 from the title – it’s not yet available so there are no owners. E75 is actually much more relevant.

    0.7.0 Release

So. Our previous development release was version 0.6.99. What version number comes after .99? We thought that 0.6.100 would be a little ugly, so we’re going to call this 0.7.0 instead. It isn’t a fully QA-verified dot-zero release, but we’re now a major step forward from 0.6.0.

Compared to 0.6.9x, we’ve done some fairly major changes to the UI code. For the more technically inclined, this means that we went back from a fullscreen QGraphicsView-based UI to a normal QWidget-based UI (with a QGraphicsView in the middle). For the rest of you, this just means good news, because the new UI looks (almost) exactly the same as the 0.6.9x UI, but it resolves a lot of our previous UI issues.

Maemo keyboard input works now. Sticky-shift, auto-caps, word completion, áccents, ümlauts, on-screen keyboard, etc.
Symbian keyboard input also works better, and a lot of other UI issues are gone.

Looking back at our original Version 0.7 – what’s going to happen post, we’ve come a long way along with those targets:

    * New UI? Check.
    * Better backend in terms of UI updates? Check.
    * Keyboard navigation? Sorry E71 users, but we’re not quite there yet :(

So, this 0.7.0 release represents what we believe to finally be a working implementation of our new UI/backend concept. No doubt, however, there are still many unpolished corners, so we’re going to be pushing new 0.7.x releases to fix these at the same pace we’ve been pushing the 0.6.9x releases.

As a bonus for N900 users, we’ve also included the first version of a new Geo-location tagging feature for blog posts in the maemo build. Note, however, that this requires a supporting plugin on the wordpress side, but said plugin unfortunately isn’t yet available.

The S60 build is availble as a self-signed SIS package, requiring Qt 4.6.3 (QtMobility 1.0.1 is already included). The maemo build is available from the extras-devel repository.

    S60: WordPress_0_7_0_selfsigned.sis

An updated Smart Installer build is not yet immediately available, but will be uploaded in the immediate future.

    N900: Install wordpress from extras-devel

We’re looking to promote this 0.7.0 build (or a very close relative) to extras-testing in the immediate future as well.

Edit: Symbian Smart installer build: http://nokia.trac.wordpress.org/export/446/builds/symbian/testing/WordPress_0_7_0_selfsigned_installer.sis

It is a bigger file, and much slower to install than the regular version, so it’s not recommended for people who already have Qt and Qt Mobility installed.

We found out via first-hand experience that the versions are not compatible. Wanting to get the bundled build out as soon as possible, we stuck with 1.0.0 for the time being.

Now that the reason for the breakage is clear, we will certainly link the next build against 1.0.1. Thanks for the pointer!

Also I think you can take advantage of this http://www.forum.nokia.com/Devices/Remote_device_access/

Here’s a post I just uploaded with the app: http://jfmanzo.wordpress.com/2010/07/04/mobile-blogging-with-a-dedicated-wordpress-app-for-people-like-me/. I am using an N97 Mini and this is my first spin with any mobile WordPress app aside from a terrible time I had on my iPod Touch with one. I am quite happy with what I can do with this one, and installation was as much of a delightful breeze as it is with almost all the Symbian apps I’ve ever used.

A couple of annoyances: One is that I can’t enter capital letter that aren’t at the beginning of sentences. Every time I type “I” I had to first enter a lower-case character (obvious choice was “i”) and only then would the upper case show up subsequently. So I was typing in “iI” for every case of “I” not at the beginning of a sentence. Same with names- it wouldn’t let me type “Nokia” (I had to to “nNokia”) but had no problem with “iPhone.” As well, at the beginning of a new paragraph caps were not recognized either- and yes this was holding down the shift key.

The software only recognized predictive text, with no way to turn it off, at least not while using the physical keyboard.

I don’t understand how to enter links- highlighting text is impossible (maybe with a stylus it would be easier) but even when I managed to, going down to “add link” didn’t work (with or without highlighted text) because I couldn’t type- it only allowed me to enter the alternate characters on my keyboard. Closing the phone to use the alphanumeric didn’t word; keypad would not pop up.

All that said I think this is a great utility and I look forward to improvements and using it all the time. Thanks!

Thank you John for the good comments!

We’re currently in process of refactoring the editor areas a bit – our current approach is a bit too fragile. The next build (that we proudly call 0.7.0) will make significant different in text inputs — and hopefully some of the weird behaviours will get fixed.

          Thank YOU!

Today, for some reason, all the caps issues have disappeared, which is great, hope it stays this way. i still cannot figure out how to enter links- after I manage to highlight text, I click in the link button and up pops a window with two parts: Name and Address. I cannot enter text in these; as I noted above, it’s as if the keyboard is stuck on alt characters and all I can enter is numbers and symbols. I also don’t undertand what “name” is supposed to mean.

I really like this wordpress app, and looking forward to use it. I have a n97 and still have problems with uploading pictures. When I press the add picture buttons I got an error saying “full memory” or the app just close?!?! Anyone who can help me? should I installed the program in the phone memory??

    New 0.6.99 development build available

    Hi!

We’ve been fixing some UI issues, so here’s a new update for Symbian/maemo, with many UI-visible changes:

    * Feature: Fix the page/post text edit widgets to automatically resize themselves to display the entire text content
    * Statistics: Fixed API key handling
    * Statistics: Stats data is now only loaded when you open the Statistics view (better startup speed)
    * Statistics: Update to reflect new UI style
    * Blogs list: Update to use new UI style
    * Maemo: more text edit focus issue workarounds (the blog-edit view should work now)
    * Comment/Post/Page list view text/layout tweaks
    * More robust error handling for RSD queries

The issues with advanced text input (auto-capitalization, predictive text, sticky shift, dead keys like accents) on maemo are still unresolved.

The S60 build is availble as a self-signed SIS package, requiring QtMobility.sis and Qt 4.6.3. The maemo build is available from the extras-devel repository.

    S60: WordPress_0.6.99_selfsigned.sis

    N900: Install wordpress from extras-devel

Thanks for helping to test these builds, your feedback on bugs is very useful to us.

When can we expect to see a new one for S60v3, I have a Nokia E71 and still on the first version released for it weeks ago.

      • futusaber 3:02 pm on July 1, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Unfortunately this version still doesn’t have full keyboard support, it only fully supports devices with touch screens. We are targeting to have a more stable release out by the end of next week.

Sorry that your question was not answered before…

Maybe you could put some links into the NavBar on the left for the future.

Sorry in advance if my question is bothering to anyone

When came a app to Sony Ericsson Satio?

      • futubanister 7:37 am on July 2, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Have you tried the current version with SE Satio? I guess it doesn’t start / crashes silently?

I don’t have a SE here, so cannot check but AFAIK there shouldn’t be major obstacles on the road. Would you like to try it and report the issues?
